Chain selection guidance covering pitch, grip profile, attachments, sprockets, conveyor geometry, materials and RFQ data.

Selection sequence

First identify the chain interface: pitch, inside width, roller diameter, strand count, top width and the existing sprocket. Next document the conveying feature, such as a gripper insert, K attachment, extended pin, clamp or cleat. Finally add the duty information—speed, product mass, path, duty cycle, washdown chemistry and temperature.

Gripper-chain decisions

For a side-grip system, record the product contact width and stiffness, the adjustable spacing between opposing chains, straight and curved sections, incline or decline angle, and whether the chain must run bi-directionally. Grip force should not be inferred from pad hardness alone.

Attachment-chain decisions

K, F, L and special attachments adapt a base chain to a conveying task. The attachment hole pattern, spacing in pitches, side of chain and carrier load must be checked together with the base chain and sprocket. Standard attachment names describe the general form; the drawing controls the exact geometry.

Sprocket matching

Confirm chain pitch, roller diameter, strand count, tooth count, bore, keyway, hub and any hardened-tooth requirement. A replacement chain that does not match the sprocket tooth form or transverse spacing can wear rapidly even when the pitch appears correct.

Ultimate tensile strength is not the same as allowable working load. Final chain selection must account for speed, shock, lubrication, sprocket size, duty cycle and environment.
